About Us
The Derwent Valley Cycling Club was established in the mid 1980's by a group of like minded West Cumbrian cyclists, all past members of the former Derwent Valley Wheelers, one of the areas oldest cycling clubs.
Based in Cumbria's Derwent Valley our activities also take in the neighbouring Solway Plain and Eden Valley offering stunning scenery, varied terrain and quiet roads.
DVCC presently has a small active membership who welcome cyclists of all ages and abilities to a club with a reputation for friendliness. Club members are active in a number of disciplines ranging from recreational cycling to competitive events.
Recently, club members have successfully completed some of the UK's most demanding cyclo sportive events. These included the Fred Whitton, the Polka Dot and Cumberland Challenges, as well as shorter events such as the Northern Rock Cyclone and the Glasgow to Edinburgh ride.
Throughout the year the club currently promotes a number of time trials and is planning to run sportive/reliability trial type events in the near future.
There are weekly club runs usually 40 - 50 miles in length at a steady pace with a cafe stop. Enjoyable rides with plenty of good humoured banter, and nobody gets left behind.
Club members meet on the last Tuesday of the month in the Grey Goat Inn, St. Helen's Street, Cockermouth. These meetings are very informal with no politics or rule laden committees, just an opportunity to discuss cycling matters (or anything else) and future plans in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.
It's about riding your bike!
